WAYFINDING
I designed signage for the Johnson & Wales University Design and Engineering Building, the John J. Bowen Center. Due to the inadequacy of existing signage within the building, my class undertook the challenge of crafting new, improved wayfinding elements. Following completion, the final designs underwent a voting process for potential implementation in the building.
DESIGN OVERVIEW
The task at hand for this project was to create signage for all 4 floors of the Bowen Center, including room, bathroom, stair, balcony, gallery & elevator signs. Each floor would also have a main sign to show what will be found on each level. I chose to use 4 different shades of blue to represent each floor of the building. As the floors progress, the shade of blue gets darker. I imagined vinyl plaques for all the signs, and the elements on each plaque (numbers, icons, etc.) would be wood to have a 3D effect to catch your eye.
DESIGN OUTCOME
After the completion of this project, I not only deepened my understanding of wayfinding but also secured the third-place spot in the voting process.
